Why choose Castle Court Dental Care
Choosing between private orthodontic treatment and NHS care involves evaluating several factors. Here’s a look at the advantages of opting for private orthodontic care with us:
Removable Appliances
Upper Removable Appliance (URA)
An upper removable appliance is a custom-made orthodontic device that fits in the upper part of your mouth and can be taken out to eat and brush. It’s commonly used for growing children and teens to correct bite issues. They are usually worn for 4-6 months and can be used in conjunction with fixed braces.
Twin Block Appliance (TBA)
A twin-block appliance is a custom-made orthodontic device that consists of two separate plates, one for the upper and one for the lower jaw. It’s removable and designed to be worn during meals and daily activities. TBAs are commonly used in growing children and teens to correct bite issues, particularly by encouraging the forward growth of the lower jaw. They are usually worn for 9-12months and can be used in conjunction with fixed brace
What Do They Treat?
Benefits
- Non-invasive and easy to remove
- Supports natural growth in young patients
- Easier to clean and maintain than fixed braces
- May avoid having extractions or jaw surgery
By following your orthodontist’s instructions and wearing the appliance consistently, you can improve your bite and achieve a healthier smile.
Retainers
Retainers are used to maintain the results of orthodontic treatment by keeping teeth in their new positions after braces or aligners are removed. They come in various types, including fixed retainers (bonded to the back of the teeth) and removable retainers (like clear plastic trays).
Length of Wear
Following orthodontic treatment, retainers are typically worn full-time for a month, and the just at night to ensure the teeth remain stable. We recommend that retainers are worn on a part-time basis for life, to maintain the result.
Consequences of Not Wearing Retainers
If retainers are not worn as prescribed, teeth may gradually shift back to their original positions, potentially undoing the progress made during orthodontic treatment. This can lead to the need for further orthodontic work.
