Emergency Dental Care

If you are experiencing unusual or excessive bleeding, trauma or swelling, seek help immediately. If you’re not in the area and are a member of our dental plan, you’ll have access to 24-hour helpline numbers for dental emergencies at home or abroad.

Practice plan members receive priority access to emergency appointments and are usually seen within 24–48 hours. While we will always do our best to see non-plan members, emergency appointments cannot be guaranteed. A £95 deposit is required to book, with treatment from £45. Joining one of our practice plans gives you the reassurance of priority access when you need us most.

During working hours: call us on 02920 512646 and we will do everything we can to see you as soon as possible.

FAQs

Common dental emergencies include:

Toothache – this can be a sign of an abscess, so you’ll need to get it checked out as soon as possible.

Knocked-out tooth – teeth that have the highest chance of being saved are those that are replaced within an hour of being knocked out. Pick your tooth up by the white part and gently try and re-insert it. If this is not possible, submerge it in milk and bring it with you to the dentist.

Broken braces – you can temporarily reattach a broken bracket using orthodontic wax, but it’s best to see your dentist as soon as possible to rectify the situation.

Rinse your mouth well with warm water. If you can’t replace the broken tooth in your mouth, store it in milk until you can get to your dentist.

Apply pressure with a piece of gauze on any bleeding areas for about 10 minutes or until the bleeding stops. If this doesn’t work, use a tea bag with pressure on the area to stop the bleeding.

Apply a cold compress to the cheek or lips over the broken tooth, to reduce swelling and pain, and take paracetamol or ibuprofen for the pain.

If you’re a dental plan member, call the 24-hour hotline for emergency advice, wherever you are.

If you experience any of the following, you will need to get treatment at a hospital:

Significant bleeding that won’t stop

Severe pain that isn’t helped by painkillers

Trauma to your face, mouth or teeth from an accident, including jaw fracture
